"Despite being drawn to paint ‘Realism’, I feel as an artist I must constantly challenge and paint outside of my comfort zone to stay inspired: the challenge for me is to paint the ambiguous – to depict the gap between virtue and despair – for what moves me to paint isn’t to define an image on the canvas... it’s the mind of the observer. The thrill that someone may translate and even ‘get’ what I’ve painted without having to be so obvious."

 

 

"I am fascinated by the most basic human (animal) emotions – of fear and anger, desire and loneliness – which are all furtively composed into my paintings, juxtaposed against visceral austere. And it’s through those urges that I inflict nuisance upon my paintings, allowing the subject to hide by conjuring layers of the arcane."
